I just posted a new editorial on my International Water Law Project blog that comments on Stanley Weiss’ July 13 OpEd in the NYT on Water for Peace (addressing water in the Middle East).
Mr. Simpson,

I thought you might be interested in this week’s feature from Urban Omnibus: landscape architect Adrienne Cortez discusses her project nyc:uncapped and how cities can balance the iconic history of uncapped fire hydrants with the substantial water waste they create.

Read about the social, physical, and environmental implications of uncapped hydrants and our alternatives to beating the heat: http://urbanomnibus.net/2009/07/nyc-uncapped/

I hope you enjoy!

Dear Mr. Waterman,
Oh, thank you for reaching out to the waterblogging community! Yes, we need a waterblogging network--one that would exclude bullshit sites like watermanblog.com, which should be called watersalesman.com. Shilling for companies angling to make money from people's fears about water scarcity and quality is not proper blogging. There's nothing wrong with selling useful products or having ads on your site, but why do you have to pretend to be an independent voice to do so?
Sincerely,

Great Site. We need it. I read through the earlier blogs and thought
about some problems that are coming our way with too much water (sea level rise) and too little water (droughts, starvation, Great Plains acquifer decline, city growth, etc.). Desalination leaves us problems of not only cost, but also waste. What does one do with a pile of salt? I'm looking forward to seeing the idea re-emerge of pulling icebergs to coastal cities that need fresh water (San Diego could use one). Keep us involved and thanks for the site.

I searched your blog and got no hits on "borrego springs" (CA) which has a serious and worsening groundwater problem. It could be the poster child for a comprehensive and coherent groundwater law in the state. For more information, go to the blog/site I run Any publicity you may be able to give the site and our serious groundwater situation will be much appreciated. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the plug! A couple of clarifications:

1) Funding? Ha! We had some pilot money a few years ago, but we are SO broke. And we kind of bristle at the notion of our being well-funded, as it tends to make potential donors think we don't need any more money. Nothing could be further from the truth!

2) Peter Gleick's name is spelled, well, like that.

Thanks again!
